Barcelona based Oriol Mubu makes his debut in Nervous Recordings with My Roots EP

Don’t let the title of this release fool you, because this EP is all about quality. The latest from Nervous Recordings comes signed by Barcelona based producer Oriol Mubu. A two-track EP that has more character than many four-track EP touching the market nowadays.

Everyone’s attention will be on «Heist 101.» Deep and dubby, it’s little more than a solid bassline combined with powerful synths and occasional heavily treated inspired by the old-school house tracks. It’s easy imagine it melting the dance floor!

You won’t have any trouble playing the more conventional «Afternoon Snack». This is a straight-up late night banger, with growling basslines and jacking drums. A great release for the Spanish House books!

This means a milestone for Oriol Mubu, who previously released music in theBasement Discos alongside Unfulano. From theBasement Crew we wish nothing but the best for this release!

Vitruvian Man; WheelUP’s broke rhythms that make you dance

“Vitruvian Man” is the brand-new single from broken beat producer WheelUP aka renowned international DJ, drum & bass producer, and head-honcho of W10 Records – Danny Wheeler. Following on from the success of his feel-good anthem “Self Healing Machine” which was praised by DJ Target (BBC 1Xtra), Dummy Mag and John Kennedy (Radio X), “Vitruvian Man” demonstrates WheelUP’s flair for heavier and darker side of bruk rhythms.

“Vitruvian Man” was debuted to the world by broken beat legend Lord Byron on CoOp presents: Selectors Assemble (Worldwide FM) alongside IG Culture. Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s iconic art piece, which expresses the seen and unseen, the connection between material/physical and spiritual worlds, WheelUP’s “Vitruvian Man” uses this as a vessel for his production. The big difference between doing your own beats, or when others buy beats.

“Like with the music, it’s here (sound) and not here (non-physical) at the same time, like human life exists in the material (body) and conscience (mind)”, Danny explains, “it’s an esoteric idea but I like it, also its proportions to the human body and also sacred geometry”.

House favourite Purple Disco Machine reveal a funk-heavy remix of ‘Mont Blanc‘

Good music to fight the bad times. House favourite Purple Disco Machine reveal a funk-heavy remix of ‘Mont Blanc’, the latest release from Mind Enterprises. The original version of the track was released last week and has already received support from Pete Tong, Erick Morillo, Guy Mantzur, Adana Twins and LUXXURY.

Mind Enterprises will headline London’s The Victoria on 1 May as well as taking to the road to join indie-electronic band Confidence Man on their huge and highly anticipated tour this spring.

Drawing from the synth-powered Italo that defined the era, ‘Mont Blanc’ is fuelled by groovy, disco-adjacent basslines, spellbinding drum patterns and cosmic odysseys that traverse continents. It follows the release of his razor-sharp EP ‘Panorama’ in November last year, and further hones in on his intoxicating new sound that represents a more spontaneous approach to songwriting.

Mind Enterprises said: The question that inspired me working on ‘Mont Blanc’: what if Kraftwerk wrote one more song for their great Trans-Europe Express LP, but they made it disco?»

Mind Enterprises is the aesthetic universe and musical dreamworld of Turin-raised producer Andrea Tirone. Born in 1985, Tirone perceives his ever-growing collection of vintage synthesisers like a “palette of colours”, or an orchestra of performers. “Every single machine has a distinctive sound that is exclusively the sound of that machine”, he says, describing the charity shops in his new home of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria as “heaven”, and noting how he has bought “a few things for really stupid prices”

The live universe of Mind Enterprises is just as colourful and larger-than-life as his songs and videos, featuring an abundance of analogue synthesisers and pastel shell-suits. Mind Enterprises is currently working on a new album that gleans influences from ‘80s Italo greats like Kano and is lightly tempered with the pulse of 90s dance-pop’ – due to be released later this year.

Jean Tonique joins forces with Pink Flamingo Rhythm Revue and Jaques Renault

The independent record label based in Brooklyn, Toucan Sounds, keeps pushing on their mission to create a hub for indie disco and house music through events, releases, and mixtapes. The label is curated by french horn rebellion and operated out of youtoocanwoo, an artist-owned music and production studio in Williamsburg.

Now they are back on track with a combination of magic that will keep you dancing like a maniac, thanks to a mesmerizing remix by maestro Jaques Renault.

About Pink Flamingo Rhythm Revue

Pink Flamingo Rhythm Revue is the solo project from Eric «Doc» Mendelsohn of Ghost Beach. With a funky, tongue-in-cheek vibe, the project explores themes of vice, ego and heartbreak through tragic characters who can’t help but get in their own way.  Over the last year he has emerged as a key voice in Nu Disco and Indie Dance, doing collaborations with Yuksek, Purple Disco Machine and Babert. He also performs as the bassist in the rock group, Des Rocs, who in the last year has exploded online, with over a million monthly Spotify listeners, opening for The Rolling Stones, Muse, and more in Europe and the US.

About Jean Tonique

Drawing influences from 70s funk, Jean Tonique makes an effort to distance himself from genre-defining elements while approaching his music from an organic and raw songwriting perspective. Using elements from hip hop, house, and 70s/80s funk, the multifaceted producer likes to draw people in with the malleable dynamics of his music. One of the “9 Artists Keeping Disco Fresh” according to Paste Magazine, he has worked with the biggest names in that scene, including Yuksek (as part of his Partyfine imprint),  Dmitri from Paris, Polo & Pan, and more.

Here is the gem you were waiting for, thanks to the remix of Jaques Renault

Rive Gauche reflects the French Touch sound and spirit with a jazzy house gem.

Here it is a beautiful title extracted from the first album of Rive Gauche the worthy successors of St Germain.

Steeped in the cheeky tales of his grandmother, Marcelle, who ran « Le Tabou » – a mythical Jazz-club in the Saint-Germain-des-prés of the 60’s – Alexandre Destrez meets electro in 1994 while he distiguishes himself with his jazz phrasé on St Germain’s albums ; « Boulevard » (F com) and « Tourist » (Blue Note)

With this double influence and his many musical collaborations with both french and international dj’s and producers, Alexandre creates Rive Gauche, an exciting electro Jazz project ! His remarkable pianist and keyboardist skill are electrified by the effects and programming of DJ producer David Hachour from Parisian Soul (who you might already now by his release on theBasement Discos) and is enriched by a band of brass and percussion.

Rive Gauche reflects the French Touch sound and spirit with a jazz melting electro beats and voices’ samples: a new Electro Jazz sensation groovy, spirited and trendy.

Chapter Two Edits: the new FREE DOWNLOAD theBasement’s release by Whatever Charles.

A good friend of edits since a few years back, homeboy Valencian Dj and producer Whatever Charles latest delivery instils the love for African culture and its heritage, and he does it giving away four dancefloor-ready tracks for free.

Charles’ prolific remixing and editing skills have touched four African infused tracks – with his signature flare shaping Whatever’s sound.

Opening the four-track release is Don’t Stop The Music, interweaving a gloriously groovy bassline with energetic vocals to produce a prolific dance-floor bomb. Up next, Whatever Charles keeps digging into African archives a little deeper, trying his hand at three other edits with powerful percussions resulting in a super-solid free download release.

It all began in Africa, and here it’s proof why we should pay tribute.

Dusty beats and dreamy synths for LUXXURY’s new single «Make It Right»

Los Angeles-based disco maven LUXXURY’s follows up on KCRW «Morning Becomes Eclectic» favorite «What Are We Gonna Do?» with another quasi-instrumental “Make it Right.»
Like Khruangbin meets Tory Y Moi and Washed Out with a falsetto nod to The Bee Gees, the song is all dusty beats, dreamy synths and a minimal just out of reach falsetto vocal.

Inspired by a breakup (a bad one, like…really bad) the song is a hopeful refrain of redemption, in anticipation of new beginnings. Music for adults with expensive taste, just like you!

South African DJ SGZ and American Carla Prather deliver a mesmerizing track.

Carla’s compelling contributions as a vocalist with over twenty music acts including Poi Dog Pondering, Common and KRS1 plus over twenty house producers including Maurice Joshua, Terry Hunter, Loftsoul and Vick Lavender just to name a few.

One of our Australian favourite artists right now, predicted as “Australia’s electronic breakthrough artist of 2019” by Finding Figaro, Melbourne-based producer Cassettes for Kids is living up to the hype with his latest release ‘Now You’re In My Dreams’, a two track EP infusing elements of acid and garage house. The title track ‘Dreams’ features a sample handpicked from a 1970s blues track. Being the longest song he’s ever released, ‘Dreams’ was inspired by the early stages of a relationship, when the other person is the centre of your world.
